This resort is located at an elevation of about 7,800 feet. Kirkwood resort offers more than just skiing. They also offer hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and even horseback riding. A short distance away they also have villages that offer ice skating, small shops and some of the best restaurants around. This is a private resort and never gets overly crowded. They are recognized for the quality of snow and the different trails that they have for a variety of different activities. They have also been recognized for having some of the best beginner areas. Kirkwood is open all year long. During the winter months it focuses mainly on skiing and snowboarding, but also has trails to go snowshoeing. During the summer months, the resort has a wide range of mountain biking and hiking trails. This is considered to be one of the largest resorts around. Along with being the largest resort, they are also well known for having the largest amount of snowfall per year. They usually receive an average of 472 inches of snow per season. The summer season goes from the first weekend in July to the first weekend in September. There are other activities that you can enjoy while staying at this lovely resort. In the summer you can enjoy a fully functional gym with a pool and spa. You will also have access to a climbing wall, a rope course, along with being able to enjoy a round of disc golf. Kirkwood Mountain has more than 65 different trails and over 2,300 acres that are all skiable. A large part of Kirkwood is designed for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. Kirkwood has a trail that is an outstanding two and half mile stretch. Even though there are so many trails for the more experienced skier, you will still find that there is about 15 percent of the trail for beginners. Along with having beginner trails, there are also terrain parks to help beginners before they go and experience more difficult trails. If you are looking to learn how to do some freestyle skiing, then you can check out the Playground which is another terrain park that has jumps and rails. Then of course you have a terrain park that is for the more advanced skier. This park boasts some serious jumps along with rails and a great sound system that keeps you moving. Kirkwood makes learning how to ski and snowboarding fun. They have professionals in both skiing and snowboarding there to help you get good fast. They have both lessons for the kids and then lessons for the adults. Not only do they teach you how to ski they also have other amenities like a repair shop and wonderful restaurants. Not to mention they have other activities like snowmobiling, tubing and ice fishing among other things. You will find that there is something for everyone at Kirkwood Mountain resort. The resort is widely held as one of the best ski resorts in the country.
